In 1977, something amazing happened. In a sea of mediocre films, and a world where everyone had certain expectations and beliefs for what could and could not be done in a movie, George Lucas blew the world away with Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. People lined up for hours on end just to see what the fuss was about, and for some of them, what they saw changed their lives and the way they look at the world forever.
The movie depicted a struggle between two warring factions. The Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance. Started from the struggle after a Sith Lord overthrew the Republic, the rebellion has struggled for years, trying to find a way to undermine the all knowing and all seeing Galactic Empire, but to no avail. It would take two more movies to depict the fall of the Empire, and three prequel movies to explain what had just happened.
Once the ending credits rolled on Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, you would think the madness would end there. It didn't. T-Shirts, Toys, video games, anything you can imagine was born out of the Star Wars franchise, making it a worldwide phenomenon. Soon there were even costumes created for characters in the movie, and now every year, you can see Star Wars Halloween costumes on sale. Want to be Darth Vader? Luke Skywalker? Yoda? No problem! You can dress in whichever costume is available, making your Halloween exciting as ever.
As you've probably guessed, this craze surrounding Star Wars memorabilia definitely has some implied profit. Even if you are not a full blown fan of the show, knowing what is and is not valuable will take you a long way and may even bring in some extra cash. For instance, some of the toys from the eighties and nineties are worth quite a bit now, especially if they are new in box.
Some things to look out for are the Millennium Falcon, Death Star, Tie Fighters, and even Boba Fett's Slave 1. All of these were very popular, and even if you can't find these right now, you can at least begin collecting the items you find in stores. Even if they're not worth much at the moment, later on you will find that they may be in high demand. When someone finally comes looking for that particular piece of merchandise, you will be able to provide it-for a price.
The best part is that you know Star Wars memorabilia is always going to be popular. Between the video games and the movies, it's going to be a very long time before it actually goes out of style. You are making an investment for the future when you buy these products, which should be the goal of any collector. So go out now and see what you can find. You might just be surprised!
